Water Loss Management Program wins NSW AWA Program Innovation Award
01 Mar 2012
The Water Directorate is pleased to announce
that the Water Loss Management Program (WLMP), a joint project with the
LGSA with funding from the Australian Government through the Water Smart
Australia programme, won the NSW AWA Program Innovation Award at an
awards dinner in Sydney on 16 February. The Program Innovation Award
recognises projects of significant and innovative environmental or
sustainable outcomes within the water industry.
As a winner of this award, the
WLMP is now a finalist in the national AWA awards to be announced at the
Ozwater Gala Dinner on Wednesday 9 May. We look forward to a successful
evening and would like to thank Ian Maggs, former Program Manager, for
the preparation of the original award submission.
The WLMP concluded in June 2011
and achieved water savings of 5.518 billion litres per annum. In
addition to significant water savings the WLMP also improved the
capacity of many local water utilities to undertake water loss projects
and delivered infrastructure enhancements.
A copy of the Final Progress Report 2006-2011
is available on the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water,
Population and Communities website. The report provides an overview of
the water savings achieved by the 59 participating councils. More
information about the WLMP can viewed here or contact Gary Mitchell.
