Walking towards World Water Day
20 Mar 2018
It’s World Water Day this Thursday 22 March. The day focuses attention on the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in developing countries.
The theme for World Water Day 2018 is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home - affecting their health, education and livelihoods. March 22 was designated World Water Day in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly.
Walk for Water in full swing
WaterAid's annual fundraising event coincides with World Water Day. Workplaces have registered teams to complete the Walk for Water, where the teams set themselves a walking goal, such as 10,000 steps a day, between 20 and 24 March. Funds raised through sponsorship help provide lifesaving safe water to the world’s poorest people.
