20 Nov 2019

Two up-and-coming water leaders from MidCoast Council, Rachel Abberton (pictured left) and Christeen Matta, have been successful in being awarded scholarships for the International Water Centre (IWC) Water Leadership Program.

The IWC Leadership Program is a feedback-intensive, 9-month professional development program that helps emerging leaders to develop the ability to exert influence, drive change and advance challenging integrated water management projects – abilities associated with the most effective integrated water management leaders. They will start the program in December and it will run throughout next year.

Rachael is a Planning Engineer with a degree in Civil/Mining Engineering. She has previous experience as an environmental field officer and environmental engineer at Agurba, Boral and Douglas Partners. Christeen is an Asset Engineer with a degree in Civil/Environmental engineering from UTS, who has previous experience at large construction companies and Sydney Water.

Rachael has been awarded the NSW Water Directorate Water Leader Scholarship, which is half funded by the NSW Water Directorate and half funded by the IWC. Christeen has been awarded a partial scholarship from the IWC with MidCoast Council supporting her with the remainder of the costs.
