Solidarity needed as longest drought drags on
31 Jul 2019
With the largest drought on record in NSW – in 120 years of recorded history – the Water Directorate is committed to ensuring that Local Water Utilities share information with government about the state of play.
The
LGNSW Water Management Conference is the perfect opportunity to bring technical staff and elected representatives together with our key water industry regulators to generate ideas and solutions. Keeping Councillors informed on current water issues is imperative for good decision-making. It’s also good for Councillors and staff to build rapport and trust.
The conference will be held in Albury on 2-4 September, and the
draft conference program is now available.
Speakers include NSW government policy makers and regulators who will outline their perspectives on ensuring safe water and sanitation for regional NSW. The Minister for Water Melinda Pavey will speak, as well as the Regional Town Water Supply Coordinator, James McTavish, on addressing water supply issues in NSW regional towns.
The Water Directorate Forum will be chaired by Executive Officer Brendan Guiney on Tuesday 3 September. It will deal with a number of important topics:
- Engagement with Bureau of Meteorology on their information services
- Regional water strategy Q&A
- Safe and Secure Water Program Q&A
- LWU performance reporting
- Telcos on Tanks – undertaking risk audits
- Industry training needs.
