OzWater'14 Feedback from Luke Whitten

21 Jul 2014
The winner of the joint Water Directorate and AWA Conference Attendance Award for young water industry professionals this year was Luke Whitten from Liverpool Plains Shire Council. Luke graduated from Newcastle University in 2012 as a Civil Engineer and he currently works as a Water Services Engineer at Liverpool Plains. A copy of Luke's report on the benefits of attending OzWater'14 is now available.

Luke was particularly interested in the trade exhibition which accompanied the conference and managed to visit many of the displays that sold products and services with relevance to his work at Liverpool Plains. Luke also enjoyed the keynote presentations, especially those that were focussed on asset management. Luke was presented with an Award Certificate by Jeff Sharp, Director of Infrastructure, Port Macquarie Hastings Council and Chair of the Water Directorate.

Each year the Water Directorate Executive Committee has offered this Conference Attendance Award and funding to assist a worthy engineer with up to 7 years experience to attend AWA's national water conference. The Water Directorate will  again sponsor this award in 2015 and encourages member councils with suitably qualified staff members to nominate for this award. Previous nominees are also welcome to renominate.

Overall, Luke noted that attending OzWater'14 helped him to gain greater 'insight into some of the big picture issues going on in the water industry, both domestically and internationally'. Congratulations again to Luke for winning this award.
