Join the debate about water training and qualifications

12 Jun 2020

The shortage of water industry training and qualifications is hitting Local Water Utilities hard, as we face an increasing shortage of skilled water operators.

NSW Public Sector ITAB is holding a series of regional online workshops for Local Government Water Managers alongside Training, HR and Workforce Development professionals, about the need for full time and part time NWP Training Package qualifications.

Workshops will run 1-4pm as follows:

  • Illawarra South East NSW – 19 June
  • North Coast / Mid North Coast – 24 June
  • New England – 25 June

The zoom video conferences will commence with a briefing from Training Services NSW, who will update you on their work in the region and current VET training initiatives, as well as other NSW government activities in this space.

One area for discussion is how you find the NSW VET system, how you would like to engage with it, and any challenges or barriers you have encountered in using the system. Also issues arising from drought, bushfires and Covid-19.

To register your interest for the regional online workshops please email Paul Humphries, Executive Officer NSW Public Sector ITAB nswitab@aistnds.org.au

To get the full picture of the water training landscape, check out Brendan Guiney’s blog addressing skills gaps in water. Please add your comments or contact the Water Directorate about your water operators training issues. We need a clear understanding of the unmet needs in order to put forward a strong case for certified water operator training in New South Wales.
