Building near Mains – new guidelines

The Water Directorate’s latest publication Building in the Vicinity of Sewer and Trunk Water Mains Guidelines 2019 aims to help Local Water Utilities protect existing and future assets from potential damage.

To come up with these guidelines, a number of councils submitted their policies for review. A practical set of template guidelines was then generated, that can be repurposed by LWUs to create their own policies.

This new publication expands on the Water Directorate’s 2011 guidelines on building near sewer mains, to include a new section relating to trunk water mains.

Building in the Vicinity of Sewer and Trunk Water Mains Guidelines 2019 has been mailed to all member councils this week. Members can download the Word and PDF versions free from the Members Area of the website. Non-members may purchase from the online Bookshop.
