Blue-Green Algae Management Protocols - 2014
Originally published in November 2001, the
Blue-Green Algae Management Protocols were revised in 2007, 2009 and again in 2014 to ensure their consistency with the NHMRC’s
Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. The Protocols provide procedures for limiting the occurrence of blue-green algae as well as effective management and control of algal outbreaks in water supplies (rivers, lakes, storages) and recreational water bodies. The main aim of the Protocols is to protect public health and to ensure that there is a safe and reliable water supply.
This 2014 version also incorporates the algal alert level framework from Water Quality Research Australia’s publication,
Strategies for Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae): a guide for Water Utilities Research Report 74.
