Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Guidelines Published

31 Jul 2013

The Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Guidelines are an update of a previous guideline prepared and distributed by the Water Directorate in May 2009. The previous guidelines, produced with considerable input from a number of member councils, were designed to assist LWUs to meet their legislative requirements with respect to the prevention of backflow in their water supply systems.

A copy of this revised edition of the Backflow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Guidelines has been mailed to the General Manager of all member councils today. The new version takes into account of changes to the Plumbing Regulations, the escalation in urban rainwater tank installations across New South Wales and reported operational difficulties associated with backflow prevention devices.

The Water Directorate strongly urges LWUs to develop and implement policies and procedures to address backflow prevention and cross connection control issues, according to legislative requirements using these guidelines where appropriate.

A copy of this publication is available in the members’ area of the website or for purchase from the online bookshop.
